Tension 19 sts x 28 rnds = 10cm measured over St st on larger needles

Other supplies 12 stitch markers or pieces of scrap yam for marking decreases contrasting stitch marker to mark beg of rnd tapestry needle
STITCH PATTERN
Triangle Lace
Rnd 1 & all odd rnds: Knit.
Rnd 2: *K1, [yo, ssk] twice, k1, [k2tog, yo] twice; rep from * to end.
Rnd 4: *K2, yo, ssk, yo, sk2p, yo, k2tog, yo, k1; rep from * to end.
Rnd 6: *K3, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, k2; rep from * to end.
Rnd 8: *K4, yo, sk2p, yo, k3: rep from * to end.
Rnd 9: Knit.
Cluny is an elegant lace-trimmed cloche with a textured brim and a simple, classic knit. The hat is started with a picot cast-on, followed by a short section of St st in a smaller needle size to fit it to the head. A small triangular lace motif adds decorative interest above the brim, and the St st body of the hat is worked into centred decreases to create a star-shaped crown.
Start knitting...
With smaller circular needles, cast on 80 (90, 100) sts using picot cast-on as follows;
*Cast on 5 sts, cast off 2 sts, then si remaining st on RH needle back to LH needle; rep from * until required number of sts are on the LH needle.
Join to work in the md, being careful not to twist. Pm to mark beg of md. Knit 3 rnds.
Work rnds 1-9 of Triangle Lace pattern from chart or written instructions.
Change to larger circular needles.
Next Rnd: Knit.
Rep last rnd until hat measures 17 (19, 21) cm from the gap between picot points.
Next Rnd: K7 (8, 9), pm, k1, pm, *k15 (17, 19), pm, k1, pm; rep from * 3 more times, k8 (9, 10).
Crown
Rnd 1 (dec): *K to 2 sts before marker, ssk, sm, k1, sm, k2tog; rep from * to end. 10 sts dec'd
Rnd 2: Knit.
Rep last 2 rnds 5 (6, 7) more times, transferring sts to DPNs when necessary. On final rnd, remove all markers apart from beg of rnd marker. 20 sts
Next Rnd: [K2tog] to end. 10 sts
Next Rnd: Knit.
Break yarn, leaving a 30cm tail, and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten, securing the end on the inside of the crown.
Weave in other ends and block carefully, smoothing the picot edge gently flat to prevent it from rolling.
Tip: "When measuring the length of your project, don't measure from the tip of one of the picots, but start from the solid stocking stitch of the brim".
Hand-dyed yarn can result in colour pooling or an obvious stripe across your work when you join a new ball. To prevent this, try working from both skeins at once, working two rounds alternately from each skein.
