Knitted Ripple Lattice Hat

Yarn: SMC Riana Color (50% New Wool, 45% Acrylic, 5% Viscose; 131 yards [120 meters]/50 grams); #5843 - don't know the color name, might be discontinued, but I only used one skein!!!

Needles: One 16" circular needle in size 9, one set of double pointed needles (dpn), also in size 9

Notions: Marker, tapestry needle, cable needle (cn) or extra dpn for cabling

Gauge: 19 stitches x 25 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm

Cast on 96 stitches, place marker, and join in a round

k1, p1, k1, p3 for one inch in ribbing

Rows 1 - 2: * k3, p3; rep from *

R 3: * k3, pass next 3 purled stitches to cable needle & hold in back, k3, p3 from cable needle, p3 *

R 4 – 5: * k6, p6 *


R 6: * pass next 3 knitted stitches to cable needle & hold in front, k3, k3 from cable needle, p6*

R 7 – 8: * k6, p6 *

R 9: remove marker, slip first three knitted stitches and replace marker, * k3, p3, slip next 3 purled stitches to cable needle & hold in back, k3, p3 from cable needle *, end by k3, p3, slip next 3 purled stitches to cable needle & hold in back, knit first three slipped stitches, p3 from cable needle

Knit rows 1 – 9 three times in total, then repeat rows 1 – 6. And now it’s time to decrease!

Row 1 of decrease: * k6, p2, p2tog, p2 *

R 2: * k6, p2, p2tog, p1 *, remove marker, slip next three knit stitches (which were the first 3 stitches, and will now become the last 3)

R 3: Switch to double-pointed needles, then * k3, p2, slip next 2 purled stitches to cable needle & hold in back, k3, p2 from cable needle *

R 4: *k3, p2tog, k3, p2 *

R 5: *k3, p1, k3, p2tog *

R 6: * k3, pass next purled stitch to cable needle & hold in back, k3, p1 from cable needle, p1 *

R 7: * k3, k2tog, k1, p2 *

R 8: * k1, ssk, k2, p2 *

R 9: * pass next 2 knitted stitches to cable needle & hold in front, k2, k2 from cable needle, p2 *

R 10: * k1, k2tog, k1, p2 *

R 11: * k3, p2tog *

R 12: * k2tog, k1, p1 *

R 13: * k2tog, p1 *

R 14: * k2tog *

Cut yarn tail to 12 inches, use yarn needle to loop through last 8 stitches which remain. Tuck in ends. Place on head, twirl in circle. You're done!
