Description of knitting a poncho for a girl
With contrast yarn, cast on 42 stitches on the needles and knit the first and last 3 stitches in double ribbing, the remaining stitches in stockinette stitch with the main yarn. After 24 cm, cast on an additional 37 stitches on each side with the main yarn and knit the newly cast-on stitches in double ribbing, the middle 42 stitches in stockinette stitch.
After 4 rows, knit the outer 3 stitches on each side in double ribbing, the remaining stitches in stockinette stitch. Starting from row 43, decrease on both sides after the first 3 and before the last 3 stitches in every 4th row 3 times by 1 stitch, in every following 2nd row 8 times by 1 stitch, and in every following row 24 times by 1 stitch. On the remaining 46 stitches, knit 2 rows in double ribbing and bind off all stitches.
Assembly. Unravel the contrast yarn (upper edge of the hood), fold the cast-on edge in half and sew, joining each of the 21 stitches of one part with the corresponding stitch of the other part. With the crochet hook and yarn doubled, make 2 chains of 20 chains each and sew the chains to both sides of the neckline. Sew pom-poms to the free ends of the chains. Sew another pom-pom to the corner of the hood.
