Knitting Instructions for the Girl's Vest

1. Cast on 152 (160) 168 stitches on needles No. 3 and knit the bottom band for 2.5 cm = 8 circular rows in ribbing. Mark the side lines (beginning of the circular row and the stitch after the middle) = 76 (80) 84 stitches for the front and back each.

2. Then distribute the stitches as follows: 25 (27) 29 stitches in small pearl pattern, 32 stitches in lace motif, evenly add 6 stitches, the remaining stitches in small pearl pattern = 158 (166) 174 stitches or 82 (86) 90 stitches for the front and 76 (80) 84 stitches for the back.

3. For side slopes, in every 8th circular row, add 7 (9) 10 x 4 stitches, then in every 6th circular row, add 3 (1) 0 x 4 stitches, by knitting 2 crossed stitches from the stretch according to the pattern along the side lines = 198 (206) 214 stitches or 102 (106) 110 stitches for the front and 96 (100) 104 stitches for the back.

4. After 20 cm = 80 circular rows (21 cm = 84 circular rows) 22 cm = 88 circular rows from the bottom band, divide the work along the side lines for the armholes and finish the front first. Continue knitting back and forth.

5. For the band, after 8.5 cm = 34 rows (9.5 cm = 38 rows) 10.5 cm = 42 rows from the division for the armholes, knit 2.5 cm = 8 rows in ribbing, evenly decreasing 6 stitches in the lace motif in the 1st row = 96 (100) 104 stitches. Then bind off all stitches.

6. Finish the back in the same way, but do not decrease stitches in the 1st row of the band.

Assembly:

  • Sew the shoulder seams.
  • Along the edges of the armholes, pick up 50 (54) 58 stitches on double-pointed needles No. 3, distribute the stitches evenly on 4 needles (= 12/13/12/13 (13/14/13/14) 14/15/14/15 stitches on each needle) and knit 2.5 cm = 8 circular rows in ribbing, then bind off all stitches according to the pattern.
