Instructions:

Jacket sizes: 42/44 (46/48)

Materials required: 400 (450) g of gray melange and 300 (350) g of dark gray yarn Lana Grossa Cool Wool Big (100% merino wool, 120 m/40 g); needles No. 4; circular needles No. 4 and No. 4.5; 2 buttons.

Ribbing: alternate 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch.

Two-tone brioche stitch: work with circular needles according to chart I. Work 2 knit and 2 purl rows alternately. To do this, slide the stitches to the other end of the needle where the working yarn is hanging. Start with the stitches before the repeat, repeat the 2 stitches of the repeat, and finish with the stitches after the repeat. Work rows 1 to 5 once, then repeat rows 2 to 5. One stitch with a yarn over is counted as 1 stitch! Always knit the edge stitches in the beginning and at the end of the row. The lighter side is on the right side.

Brioche stitch: work according to chart II. Start with the stitch before the repeat, repeat the stitches of the repeat, and finish with the stitches after the repeat. Work rows 1 to 4 once, then repeat rows 3 and 4. One stitch with a yarn over is counted as 1 stitch! Slip the edge stitch in knit rows as a purl stitch with the yarn behind the needle and pull it tight, and knit it at the end of the row. Slip the edge stitch in purl rows as a purl stitch with the yarn in front of the needle and pull it tight, and purl it at the end of the row.

Gauge, two-tone brioche stitch, needles No. 4.5: 19 stitches and 50 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

The jacket is knitted sideways from one sleeve to the other. The direction of knitting is indicated by an arrow on the pattern.

Work process: for the left sleeve, cast on 45 (49) stitches with gray melange yarn on needles No. 4 and knit 2 cm = 5 rows of ribbing, starting from the first purl row and with 1 purl stitch. Switch to circular needles and work with two-tone brioche stitch. For side shaping, increase 1 stitch on both sides in the 17th row from the ribbing, then every 16th row - 9 times 1 stitch = 64 (69) stitches.

After 34 cm = 170 rows from the ribbing, place a marker on both sides and start shaping the kimono sleeve. To do this, increase 1 stitch on both sides in the next 3rd row, then every 4th row - 14 times 1 stitch and every 2nd row - another 2 times 1 stitch and 5 times cast on 2 new stitches = 119 (123) stitches. After 15 cm = 74 rows from the marker, cast on 13 (15) stitches for the side length of the back on the right side of the work, and 13 (15) stitches for the side length of the front on the left side = 145 (153) stitches, incorporating the increased stitches into the pattern.

After 14 (16) cm = 70 (80) rows from the start of the back and front, bind off the middle stitch for the neckline and continue working each side separately. First, put the 72 (76) stitches of the back on hold and work the 72 (76) stitches of the left front, binding off 4 stitches on the right side for the neckline shaping, then in every 2nd row - 2 times 2 stitches and 2 times 1 stitch, and every 4th row - another 3 times 1 stitch. After 8 cm = 40 rows, knit the front band on the remaining 59 (63) stitches using gray melange yarn and needles No. 4 in ribbing. After 2 cm = 5 rows from the start of the band, bind off the stitches loosely according to the pattern.

Knit the right front symmetrically to the left. To do this, cast on 59 (63) stitches with gray melange yarn on needles No. 4 and knit 2 cm = 5 rows of ribbing, starting from the first purl row and with 1 purl stitch. In the last row of the band, make 2 buttonholes (knit to the 18th stitch from the end of the row, make a yarn over and knit 2 stitches together, knit 8 stitches, make a yarn over and knit 2 stitches together, knit the remaining 6 stitches).

Continue knitting the two-tone brioche stitch with circular needles No. 4.5, shaping the neckline on the right side of the work symmetrically to the left side, incorporating the increased stitches into the pattern. After the last row of the neckline, put the remaining 72 (76) stitches on hold. Knit the back for the neckline width on the 72 (76) stitches put on hold. After 16 cm = 80 rows from the start of the neckline, knit across all stitches, increasing 1 stitch in the middle = 145 (153) stitches. Finish the piece symmetrically to the beginning, bind off the stitches according to the pattern. Sew the sleeve and side seams.

With circular needles No. 4, pick up 205 (223) stitches with gray melange yarn along the bottom edge of the jacket, leaving the front bands free. For the collar band, knit 1 purl row and put the stitches on hold. Now, from the wrong side, pick up the same number of stitches and knit 1 row of the collar band. From the right side, knit the stitches from both rows together. To do this, hold the needles parallel and knit 1 stitch from the front needle and 1 stitch from the back needle together. From the next row, work the band in ribbing in straight and reverse rows. When the band reaches a height of 2 cm = in the 5th row of ribbing, bind off the stitches according to the pattern.

With circular needles No. 4, pick up 97 stitches with gray melange yarn around the neckline, without including the short sides of the front bands, and first knit a double collar band as at the bottom edge, knitting the stitches together from the wrong side. For the collar, work in ribbing in straight and reverse rows. In the 1st row (purl row, the collar band is on the right side and becomes the wrong side when folded), start with 1 purl stitch. In the 1st row of ribbing, double the 9th stitch from the edge (knit 1 knit stitch and 1 purl stitch from it), then double every 4th stitch 19 more times = 117 stitches. After the 5th row of ribbing, work in brioche stitch. When the collar reaches a height of 10 cm, bind off the stitches loosely according to the pattern. Fold the collar to the right side. Sew on the buttons.
