Yarn

  • Yarn A = 1 x Ball of The Petite Wool from We Are Knitters in Black.
  • Yarn B = 1 x Ball of The Petite Wool from We Are Knitters in Natural.
  • Yarn weight = Bulky/Chunky/12 Ply.
  • Yarn substitute tool – YarnSub.

Knitting Needles

  • 8 mm/US 11 Circular knitting needles with a 16″/40 cm cable.
  • You can use straight or circular needles for this project.

Size Information

  • Gauge: Approx. 12 sts/18 rows in 4 x 4 inches/10×10 cm in pattern, though gauge isn’t too important for this scarf.
  • Finished Dimensions:
  • Length across the top from longest point to point is 76 inches/193 cm.
  • The width from the top to the bottom of the scarf point is 13 inches/33 cm.
  • The size might vary as tension is different from knitter to knitter.
  • You can make this triangle scarf larger or smaller as you wish; just knit more or fewer rows.
  • The scarf is worked from side to side.
  • By increasing as you knit, the scarf will become larger and wider as you make it.

Knitting Abbreviations

  • K – Knit
  • KFB – Knit into the front and back of the stitch (increase)
  • P – Purl
  • Rep – Repeat
  • SSK – Slip, slip, knit (decrease)
  • St(s) – Stitch(es)
  • RS – Right side
  • WS – Wrong side

Pattern Instructions:

  • In Yarn A cast on 3 sts.
  • Row 1 (RS): KFB, K to end. (1 st increased)
  • Row 2 (WS): P to end.
  • Row 3: Knit.
  • Row 4: Knit.
  • Repeat the last 4 rows until you have 5 sts.
  • Change to Yarn B and repeat the last 4 rows until you have 7 sts.
  • Change to Yarn A and repeat the last 4 rows until you have 9 sts.
  • Cont to change yarn colors every 8 rows repeating the 4 row repeat until you have 44 stitches.

Next, you will decrease staying in the color pattern;

  • Row 1 (RS): K1, SSK, K to end. (1 st decreased)
  • Row 2 (WS): P to end.
  • Row 3: Knit.
  • Row 4: Knit.
  • Repeat the last 4 rows with the color changes/alternating between Yarn A and B every 8 rows until you have 3 sts.
  • Work rows 2-4 again.
  • Cast off.
  • Weave in all loose ends.

Finishing: Once you’re happy with the length of your scarf, bind off/cast off loosely in the same color as your last stripe.

Use your tapestry needle to weave in all loose ends along the sides of the scarf.

For a polished finish, lightly block your scarf to smooth out any uneven edges and relax the fibers.

Since this is a wool-based yarn, blocking will help the scarf lie flat and show off those crisp, contrasting stripes.
