Instructions:

Sizes: 36/38 (40/42-44/46-48/50).

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn (77% natural wool, 23% polyamide; 125 m/50 g) — 400 (450-500-550) g of melange yarn;
  • Yarn (82% alpaca wool, 16% polyamide, 2% elastane; 132 m/25 g) — 25 g of brown yarn;
  • Needles No. 4.5, 5, and 5.5;
  • Circular needles No. 5 and 5.5 with a length of 60 cm.

Edge Stitches: Slip the first stitch of every row as if to purl with the yarn in front of the needle, knit the last stitch of every row = chain edge.

Ribbing: Knit 1, purl 1 alternately.

Patent Pattern: Odd number of stitches.

1st row (WS): edge stitch, *1 purl, slip 1 stitch with yarn over as if to purl, repeat from * continuously, 1 purl, edge stitch.

2nd row (RS): edge stitch, *1 knit, knit together 1 stitch with yarn over as if to purl, repeat from * continuously, 1 knit, edge stitch. Repeat 1st and 2nd rows continuously.

Small Seed Stitch: Knit 1, purl 1 alternately, shifting stitches in each row.

Gauge:

  • 12 sts x 28 rows = 10 x 10 cm, knitted in patent pattern with amber melange yarn. Sample made with needles No. 5.5.
  • 19 sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm, knitted in small seed stitch with brown yarn. Sample made with needles No. 4.5.

Back: Using amber yarn and needles No. 5, cast on 77 (81-87-91) sts and knit 8 cm = 18 rows in ribbing, starting with a WS row and 1 purl after the edge stitch. Then, switch to needles No. 5.5 and knit in patent pattern, starting with a WS row. After 28 (27-25.5-24.5) cm = 78 (76-72-68) rows from the bottom band, place markers for the armholes on both sides. After 24.5 (25.5-27-28) cm = 69 (71-75-79) rows from the markers, shape the shoulder slopes by binding off 3 (4-3-4) sts on each side once, then 3 (3-4-4) sts 5 times in every 2nd row, and finally 3 (4-3-4) sts once. Simultaneously with the 4th shoulder bind-off, bind off the middle 25 sts for the neckline, and complete each side separately. For neckline shaping, bind off 4 sts once and 1 st once from the inner edge in every 2nd row. Complete the other side symmetrically.

Front: Work as for the back, but after 3.5 cm = 10 rows from the bottom band, make markers for pocket openings at 20 (22-24-26) sts and at 57 (59-63-65) sts from the left edge and divide the work. Continue on 20 (22-24-26) sts of the left side, adding 1 edge st from the inner edge = 21 (23-25-27) sts, and leave the remaining stitches. After 15 cm = 42 rows from the division, leave the stitches and continue on the middle 37 (37-39-39) sts, adding 1 edge st on each side = 39 (39-41-41) sts. After 15 cm = 42 rows from the division, leave the stitches and continue on the right side, adding 1 edge st from the inner edge = 21 (23-25-27) sts. After 15 cm = 42 rows from the division, work on all stitches, decreasing the added edge sts in the 1st row = 77 (81-87-91) sts. For a deeper neckline, after 17.5 (18.5-20-21) cm = 49 (51-55-59) rows from the armhole markers, bind off the middle 13 sts and shape the neckline by binding off 3 sts once, 2 sts once, and 1 st 6 times from the inner edge in every 2nd row.

Assembly: For pocket lining, using brown yarn and needles No. 4.5, cast on 57 (57-60-60) sts and knit 18.5 cm = 56 rows in small seed stitch. Then bind off all stitches. Sew the pocket lining to the wrong side of the front above the band and to the outer edges of the pocket openings, and also sew the top edge. For pocket bands, using amber yarn and needles No. 5, pick up 23 sts along the free edges of the pocket openings and knit 3 cm = 7 rows in ribbing, starting with a WS row and 1 purl after the edge stitch. Bind off stitches according to the pattern. Sew the ends of the pocket bands.

For shoulder inserts, using amber yarn and needles No. 5.5, cast on 7 sts and knit in patent pattern starting with a WS row. After 17.5 (19.5-21.5-23.5) cm = 49 (55-61-65) rows from the beginning, bind off all stitches. Sew the inserts between the shoulder edges of the back and front, placing the initial rows at the side edges accordingly.

For the turtleneck collar, using amber yarn and needles No. 5, pick up stitches along the neckline starting from the middle of the back, 21 sts, pick up 3 sts along the left shoulder insert = 1 st from each ridge, pick up 54 sts along the front neckline, pick up 3 sts along the right shoulder insert, and pick up 21 sts along the back neckline to the middle = 102 sts. Starting with a WS row and 1 knit stitch after the edge stitch, knit 8 cm = 17 rows in ribbing, making decreases on the shoulder inserts in the 8th and 14th rows (= RS rows) by knitting 1 knit, 1 purl, and 1 knit together = 94 sts. Then switch to circular needles No. 5.5 and knit in patent pattern starting with the 1st row of the pattern (= WS row) so the ridges continue without shifting, and the RS of the patent pattern will be outside when the collar is folded. After 8 rows of patent pattern, make increases on the shoulder inserts by knitting 1 twisted stitch from the strand on each side of the ridge and include these stitches in the patent pattern = 98 sts. After 7 cm = 20 rows of patent pattern, bind off all stitches loosely. Sew the back seam of the collar from the inside with mattress stitch, placing the seam allowances outside. Sew the side seams up to the markers with mattress stitch.

For the right armhole band, using amber yarn and circular needles No. 5, pick up 39 (41-43-45) sts along the back armhole edge starting from the side seam, pick up 3 sts along the shoulder insert = 1 st from each ridge, pick up 38 (40-42-44) sts along the front armhole edge = 80 (84-88-92) sts. Work in the round and starting with 1 purl, knit 3.5 cm = 7 rounds in ribbing, making decreases in the 4th round over the shoulder insert and side seam by knitting 1 knit, 1 purl, and 1 knit together = 76 (80-84-88) sts. Bind off stitches according to the pattern. Work the left armhole band symmetrically.
