Instructions:
Sizes: S (M) L (XL).
You will need: yarn (100% wool; 50 g/175 m) — 4 (5) 5 (5) skeins of light gray; circular needles No. 4 with a length of 60 and 80 cm; circular needles No. 3.5; 70 (75) 80 (85) cm of elastic band, 30 mm wide.
Stockinette stitch: knit stitches in the front rows, purl stitches in the back rows. In circular rows, knit all stitches.
Ribbing: alternate 3 knit stitches, 2 purl stitches.
Gauge: 20 stitches x 27-28 rows = 10 x 10 cm, knitted in stockinette stitch on needles No. 4.
Note: The skirt is knitted in the round using circular needles. If only one number/row of numbers is given in the instructions, these apply to all sizes.
Work process:
Using circular needles No. 4, cast on 186 (198) 210 (222) stitches and knit in the round in ribbing: * 3 knit, 3 purl *, repeat from * to *.
When the piece reaches a length of 45 (46) 47 (48) cm, start making decreases in the next row: * 3 knit, knit 2 purl stitches together *, 2 purl *, repeat from * to *.
Continue working in ribbing = alternate 3 knit stitches, 2 purl stitches. Knit straight for 8 cm from the row with decreases.
In the next row, knit while catching a contrasting thread. After the contrasting thread, knit straight for another 7 cm and leave the stitches on the needles.
Casing for elastic band: Pick up the stitches from the row knitted with the contrasting thread onto circular needles No. 3.5. Fold the top of the skirt to the wrong side. Knit the stitches from the working needles and the stitches picked up from the contrasting row together in pairs, knitting them together while binding off. Leave a section of 3-4 cm unsewn.
Through the open section, insert the elastic band into the formed casing, sew the ends, adjusting the length of the band to fit the waist. Sew the open section closed.
