Materials
- 1 ball of yarn or left over yarn with a gauge of 6 sts/inch on size 6 needle.
- Knitting needles size 6 (4mm)
- A medium crochet hook for attaching a tassel.
Direction
CO 17 sts. Knit 4 rows then follow pattern below;
Row 1: Knit.
Row 2 and every even row: K2, p13, k2.
Row 3: Knit.
Row 5: K6, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, sl1, k1, psso, k6.
Row 7: K5, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, sl1, k1, psso, k5.
Row 9: K4, [k2tog, yo] twice, k1, [yo, sl 1, k1, psso] twice, k4.
Row 11: K3, [k2tog, yo] twice, k3, [yo, sl 1, k1, psso] twice, k3.
Row 13: K2, [k2tog, yo] 3 times, k1, [yo, sl 1, k1, psso] 3 times, k2.
Row 14: As row 2.
Repeat row 1-14 twice, repeat row 1-10 once more, then work decrease as follow;
Row 1: K4, [sl 1, k1, psso, yo] twice, k1, [yo, k2tog] twice, k4.
Row 2: K2, p13, k2.
Row 3: K4, sl 1, k1, psso, yo, sl 1, k1, psso, k1, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k4.
Row 4: K2, p 11, k2.
Row 5: K4, sl 1, k1, psso, yo, sl 1, k2tog, psso, yo, k2tog, k4.
Row 6: K2, p9, k2.
Row 7: K4, sl 1, k1, psso, k 1, k2tog, k4.
Row 8: K2, p 7, k2.
Row 9: K4, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k4.
Row 10: K2, p5, k2.
Row 11: K3, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k3.
Row 12: K2, p3, k2.
Row 13: K2, sl1, k2tog, psso, k2.
Row 14: K2, p1, k2.
Row 15: K1, sl 2 tog knitwise, k1, pass the 2 sl sts over, k1.
Row 16: K3.
Row 17: Sl1, k2tog, psso. End off.
Attach tassels to the narrow end of the bookmark.
How to make a tassel:
Cut 4-5 12-inches strips of yarn. Lay them together in bundle. Use a crochet hook to pull the center of the strips through an area where you want to tassel attached. Pull the yarn so that you have a big enough loop to pull all the ends through by hand. Adjust and pull it tight as you like and you're done.
