Knitting materials and tools:
- Straight or DPN 3.5 mm (US 4)
- Vintage Colors, Berroco (4) – 50% acrylic, 40% wool, 10% nylon
Torch knit headband size:
- Gauge: 17 sts –10 cm (4 inches).
- Head circumference: 53-57 cm
- Width: 10 cm (4 inches)
- Length: 45 cm
Common abbreviations of knit stitches:
- k – knit
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- skpo – Slip, Knit, Pass Over: Slip one stitch to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into the slipped stitch, pass it over the knit stitch and it’s done.
- k2tog – knit the next two stitches together.
- M3 (make three) – insert the needle as if to knit, wrap the yarn around and make a knit stitch without dropping stitch of the left needle, yo, then again insert the needle as if to knit, wrap the yarn around, make a knit stitch and drop the stitch of the needle.
Torch headband knitting pattern:
Cast on 88 sts or any other number multiple of 4. Place stitch marker and join to knit in rounds.
Rounds 1-4: [k1, p1] – repeat around.
Rounds 5-6: [p3, k1] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 7: [p3, M3] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 8: [p3, k3] – repeat till the end of round.
Round 9: p2, k2tog, k1, skpo, [p1, k2tog, k1, skpo] – repeat around. At the very end, knit a SKPO using the 1st stitch of the next round. Count the SKPO stitch as the 1st stitch of Round 10. Place a stitch marker before this stitch to mark the beginning of the round.
Round 10: k1 (already knitted), [p1, k3] – repeat around, p1, k2.
Repeat Rounds 5-10 two more times. Then, repeat Rounds 5 and 6 once more.
Finish with three rounds of k1, p1 ribbing. Then, bind off all stitches and weave in the ends.
