Knitted Baby Pixie Bonnet

The bonnet is one size – 0-4 months

Materials:

  • Pair of 6mm/US size 10 knitting needles.
  • 50g of chunky yarn – use yarn hat works with 6mm needles (check ball band).
  • Darning needle to sew up seam and a pair of scissors.

Abbreviations

  • K – knit
  • P – purl

Tension

In stocking stitch over 2cm on 6mm needles – 3 stitches and 3 rows.

Instructions

With 6mm needles, cast on 38 stitches.

Work the following 12 rows TWICE.

  3. K
  4. K2, *P2, K2; repeat from * to end of row
  5. K
  6. K2, *P2, K2; repeat from * to end of row
  7. K
  8. P2, *K2, P2; repeat from * to end of row
  9. K
  10. P2, *K2, P2; repeat from * to end of row
  11. K
  12. P2, *K2, P2; repeat from * to end of row

Cast off in k.

Fold over and sew up the back seam – whip stitch works well.

Sew in loose ends.

Attach ties to the bonnet, for example braids, ribbons or twisted cord.

Below is a photo of how I make bonnet ties. I cut 6 stands of yarn, 1 metre each, and thread them straight through the fabric of the bonnet at the front edges. Then separate into 3 lots of 2 strands, and braid. Knot when done and trim to finish. Make two matching ties at the length of your choice.
