Knitted Chunky Baby Booties

You will need the following to knit the booties:
- Approx 30g chunky yarn. I used Stylecraft Merry Go Round Chunky. This yarn is especially created for babies and children. It is easy and quick to knit with, hard wearing and soft. I bought mine here at Love Crafts. You could alternatively use a plain chunky baby yarn such as Stylecraft Special Chunky for Babies.
- Pair of 6mm knitting needles.
- Scissors and a needle for sewing up.
EASY CHUNKY BABY BOOTIES FREE KNITTING PATTERN
These chunky baby booties are very easy to knit. There is no picking up of stitches and garter stitch (k) is used throughout the entire piece. You will need to know some basic shaping to knit these booties. The abbreviations are all explained below in the following knitting pattern.
Size of booties
- 0-3m, although may fit to 6 months depending on baby size. The booties have plenty of stretch.
Tension:
- 2.5 stitches and 2 rows over 2cm in garter stitch using 6mm needles.
Abbreviations:
- K – knit
- P – purl
- Kfb – knit into the front and back of the stitch, thus increasing by 1
- Skp – slip one stitch purl wise, knit one stitch, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, thus decreasing by 1
- K2tog – knit 2 stitches together, thus decreasing by 1
Instructions
The booties are knit bottom up. Make 2.
On 6mm needles and plain yarn cast on 13 stitches. When you cast on, leave a long enough yarn tail to sew up bottom seam (approx 20cm).
Work the following row by row pattern:

- K2, kfb, k3, kfb, k2, kfb, k3, kfb, k3 (21)

Rows 13 – 20: K
Cast off loosely in K – leave tail long enough to sew up back seam before cutting yarn.
Sew up bottom seam with cast on tail, and back seam with cast off tail.
Sew in loose ends.
If wanted, thread yarn or narrow ribbon though the fabric as shown in the photos of the booties.
