What you need
one ball each of two colors of worsted/8 ply yarn (color A and color B)
pair of size 7 US (4.5 mm) knitting needles
two small buttons
Instructions
Knitting the Bottom of the Foot
Cast on 10 stitches in Color A.
Purl 1 row.
Kfb, knit across, kfb in the last stitch. 12 stitches.
Purl 1 row.
Change to Color B. Knit 1 row, purl 1 row.
Kfb, knit across, end kfb. 14 stitches.
Purl 1 row.
Change back to Color A and, changing colors every 5th row, work in Stockinette Stitch until piece measures 10 inches (25.5 cm) or the desired length of the foot, ending with a purl row.
*K1, k2tog. Repeat from * across. 7 stitches.
Purl 1 row.
*k2tog. Repeat from * across, ending k1. 4 stitches.
Bind off.
Knitting the Slipper Top
With Color A, cast on 12 stitches.
Purl 1 row.
Knit in the front and back of the first stitch, knit across, kfb in the last stitch. 14 stitches.
Purl 1 row.
Change to Color B. Knit 1 row, purl 1 row.
Kfb, knit across, end kfb. 16 stitches.
Purl 1 row.
Change back to Color A and, changing colors every fifth row, work in Stockinette Stitch until piece measures 4 inches (10 cm) from beginning, ending with a wrong side row.
Knit 6, bind off 4. Join new yarn and knit 6. The first 6 stitches should be placed on a stitch holder or spare needle while just these 6 stitches are worked.
Keeping in stripe pattern, work until this piece measure 8 inches (20 cm) from beginning, ending with a wrong side row. Cut yarn and place these stitches on a holder.
Beginning with a purl row, rejoin yarn to the other 6 stitches. Keeping in stripe pattern, work until this piece measure 8 inches (20 cm) from beginning, ending with a wrong side row.
K6, cast on 4, k6 held stitches. 16 stitches.
Work in Stockinette Stitch for 9 rows, ending with a wrong side row.
*K1, k2tog. Repeat from * across. 8 stitches.
Purl 1 row.
*k2tog. Repeat from * across. 4 stitches.
Bind off.
Knitting the Strap
Using whichever color you prefer, cast on 6 stitches.
Work in Stockinette Stitch until piece is 5 inches (12.75 cm) long, ending with a wrong side row.
K2, yo, k2tog, k2.
Work 3 rows in Stockinette.
K2tog 3 times. 3 stitches.
P3 tog.
Cut yarn and fasten up.
Finishing
Sew the top to the bottom, with wrong sides together, using back stitch.
Sew the cast on edge of the strap about 2 inches (5 cm) from the beginning of the opening for the foot.
Sew a button on the opposite side in line with the strap.
