Instructions:
Use number 9 (3.75 mm) or 8 (4.00 mm) knitting needles and double knitting wool.
Cast on 28 stitches in brown, beige or pudding coloured wool.
Rows 1 to 4 – garter stitch
Rows 5 to 12 – stocking stitch – include beads if you want – see below.
Change to white wool
Rows 13 to 18 garter stitch
Row 19 – knit 2 tog (14 sts)
Row 20 – purl 2 tog (7 sts)
Leave long tail to sew seams
Adding Beads
Added light / dark brown beads periodically in rows 5 to 12 to represent rich dried fruit (optional).
To add beads:- slip stitch on to a hair grip shaped piece of wire. Feed bead on wire, then stitch. Slip stitch on to other knitting needle (do not knit stitch with bead). You must purl behind beads even on a knit row. You could sew a French knot or over sew, if you do not have beads.
Making Up:Thread needle on tail and pull through 7 stitches tightly sewing edges together. Sew on three bells.
You could over sew red berries and green leaves for holly if you wish.
