BONNET

Using 3.25mm needles, cast on 8 sts, turn, with RS facing work across sts of one ear flap as folls - * (K4, P2) 9 times *, turn, cast on 24 sts, turn, with RS facing, rep from * to * across sts of other ear flap, turn, cast on 5 sts. 146 sts.

Beg Patt

Row 1: WS - K2, * P4, K2, rep from * to end.

Row 2: P2, * C4, P2, rep from * to end.

Row 3: As 1st row.

Row 4: P2, * K4, P2, rep from * to end.

Last 4 rows form patt for rem.

Cont in patt until work measures 9cm from beg (excluding ear flaps), ending with a 3rd patt row.

Working along lower edge of bonnet, with RS facing and using 3.25mnn needles, knit up 8 sts across edge to beg of first ear flap, knit up 20 sts evenly along shaped side of first ear flap, knit up 16 sts across base of ear flap, knit up 20 sts evenly along other shaped side of first ear flap, knit up 21 sts across front of bonnet, knit up 20 sts evenly along shaped side edge of second ear flap, knit up 16 sts across base of second ear flap, knit up 20 sts evenly along other shaped side of second ear flap, then knit up 8 sts across rem of lower edge. 149 sts.

Row 1: P1, * K1, P1, rep from * to end.

Row 2: K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Last 2 rows form rib.

Work a further 7 rows rib. Cast off loosely in rib.

MAKING UP

Do not press. Using mattress st, join side edges to form back seam.

Make a small pom-pom and attach securely to crown.
