Knitted Gift Bag
Knitted gift bags are a delightful touch to any present, adding a personal and heartfelt flair to your gift-giving gesture. Materials
- 50 g red yarn (I used Roma by Scheepjes)
- 50 g green yarn (I used Roma by Scheepjes)
- 5 mm knitting needles
- 5 mm crochet hook
- 5 mm crochet hook
- sewing needle
- scissors
- a piece of cardboard (I used my pillbox)
The bag
- With green, cast on 68 sts with the knitting needles.
- Beginning with a K row, st-st 10 rows.
- K1, (yo, K2tog) x 33, K1.
- St-st 9 rows.
- Change to red and st-st 10 rows.
- Change to green and st-st 10 rows.
- Change to red and st-st 10 rows.
- Change to green and knit following rows.
- (K3, K2tog) x 13, K3 (55 sts).
- P 1 row.
- (K2, K2tog) x 13, K3 (42 sts).
- P 1 row.
- (K1, K2tog) x 13, K3 (29 sts).
- P 1 row.
- K1, K2tog x 13, K2 (16 sts).
- Cut off the yarn, leaving a long end and pull it through the remaining stitches.
- Close the bag with the mattress stitch, weave in the ends and cut them off.
Upper edge
- Use red and the 3.5 mm crochet hook.
- Row 1: pull the thread through a stitch at the back of the bag, ch 4, * skip 1 st, 1 dc, ch 1 *, work from * to * till the end, sl-st into the 3rd ch from the 4 you made at the beginning of the row.
- Row 2: ch 3, 4 dc in the first ch 1 space, *sl-st in the next ch 1 space, 5 dc in the next ch 1 space *, repeat from * to * till the end, sl-st in the first ch from the 3 you made at the beginning of the row, cut off the yarn and weave in the ends and cut them off.
String
- With double red yarn and 5 mm crochet hook, ch 120.
- Weave the string into the row with wholes you made at the top of the bag and cut off the ends.
Tassel
- Wind red yarn around the piece of cardboard, then cut it.
- Cut off a small piece of yarn, pull it through the upper part of the tassel and bind it off (use the ends to attach the tassel to the bag).
- Cut the lower loops of yarn and with a small piece of yarn, bind off the tassel about 0.5 cm from the top.
- Attach the tassel to the bag.
